COMPETITION
The objective is to design and build a camping installation in rural environment at Louna Village that serves as a resting and entertaining place. Could you design the best installation that can give campers an unforgettable experience regardless of where it is: on the mountain, on a tree, or in the field.
- The entries shall be built for permanent purpose.
- Defining the design to be available for 1-3 campers.
- Defining the maximum built area of the competing project to be 12m2
- The camping installation should have natural lighting and ventilation sheltering campers from rain, wind, and other natural elements.
Requirement
a) Safety:
l Safety is of paramount importance when participating in this competition.
2 Appropriate protective clothing, footwear, helmet should be worn by students during construction
3 Students are encouraged to carry out a risk assessment for their design prior to site construction.
b) Finances:
It is of great importance to make the design cost- effective, by using bamboo and other common materials available.
c) Territoriality and Localization:
Considering the characteristics of Louna’s culture, climate, and geography, it is compulsory to use bamboo as the material of main structure and use other local materials that are easy to get.
d) Building:
The design is supposed to be built easily and quickly, so that it can be implemented to similar villages to promote rural rehabilitation and development within the rapid urbanization in China.
Materials and Construction
Bamboo, one of the fastest-growing plants on earth, has its long tradition as a construction material, especially in Asia. Apart from a fantastic carbon-footprint, the material's amazing technical performance is responsible for this popularity. Because it is extremely light yet very hard at the same time it can compete with timber, concrete and steel.
This competition calls for contemporary designs that show the impressive diversity of its usage. It includes works that are entirely made of bamboo as well as projects that show how bamboo functions in combination with other construction materials. Other materials can be used as supplementary.
